Experience
Mr. Haynes has been with Semmes, Bowen & Semmes since 1983
and has previously served on the Firm's Management Committee, as Chair of the
Workers' Compensation Practice Group, and as Vice-Chairman of the Firm. He has
had extensive experience in the defense of cases for employers, insurers and
self-insurers, with specialization in workers' compensation matters. Mr. Haynes
has handled numerous jury trials throughout the Circuit Courts of Maryland, as
well as the United States District Court for Maryland. He has handled and argued
cases before all Maryland appellate courts and the Fourth Circuit Court of
Appeals, including preparation of amicus curiae briefs in key cases for the
insurance defense community. Mr. Haynes is the designated workers' compensation
counsel in Maryland for numerous national retail companies and for numerous
hospitals and medical care facilities. He is a frequent presenter at programs
and seminars on workers' compensation and insurance defense topics.
Mr. Haynes is a member the Board of Directors of the Maryland
Workers' Compensation Educational Association ("MWCEA") and served as president
of that organization in 2005. He has been designated a Maryland "Super Lawyer"
in the area of workers' compensation for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. He is admitted to
practice before the Maryland Bar, the United States District Court for the
District of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit,
and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Haynes achieved an A/V® rating from Martindale Hubbell®,
the highest possible peer review rating for ethics and legal ability.
